For you philco fans this common set which I believe was the last batch of consoles that philco made before starting its war production in 1942 or there abouts. Its in the shop for a total redo including some veneer replacement on the top of both shoulders. Water damage caused the veneer to lift and turn black probably from a plant. The chassis and turntable are going thru a restoration as well, when finished this old timer will be sitting tall once again in the family's home.

Hello Radiorich, Philco coming right along, waiting on reproduction grill cloth and decals for wooden escutcheon which will be refinished as well. I will post more pics when radio cabinet is done. Turntable metal frame was rusty so I bead blasted and painted for good measure.

Finished up this common Philco, I must say its the nicest one I've seen so far, not because I finished it but because this model looks drab from factory. I did a little of my own touch's to make the cabinet more appealing. Looks pretty good for a run of the mill cabinet.

Hi Fred,

Your Philco came out great! I know that veneer work is not as easy as it looks. What did you use for grain filler?

That is one gorgeous looking cabinet!
I’d love to see it in person.
If I had a radio that looked like that, my wife would let me keep it in our living room.

Timbermate is the grain filler. You can order on amazon.

Fred, can you give a radio cabinet restoration class, I'll fly out of Pennsylvania for the first class! Your work is awesome! Nice job again!

Don't use that one though.. I just saw that I spelled Aerial wrong. Luckily I still have the PDF file.

Fred, you always forget to people that your number one ingredient is hard work. The trick is avoiding unnecessary hard work. Looks great!

Thanks Rich,
I need to print it and then age it a little.. I wish the numbers and letters weren't so crisp...

Yup, The wide U and the offset Y could not be matched.
You are welcome spend 11 hours making one with the right fonts.

Here is a quick 15 minute touchup of the original. I wanted something to better match my aged Philco 91 console radio. I forgot that I needed it until I saw your pic. Sorry for the compressed jpg but I was too lazy to host the pic elsewhere and link to it.

Beautiful wood-working skills. I love it when the tone is just right like that. Warm and rich looking.

Fred, sorry to jump back in time to this Philco but it's a cabinet that I'm starting on now. Was the escutcheon glued in? If so did you use heat to remove? Also, is that new Vvivid brand vinyl faux coating?
