I found in the bay a defect 54601, 4 channels, 100mc.
The screen is vertical squashed. low price, got it, it`s on the way.
Is there a manual avaiable? I think this is bad C in the monitor part

HP 54601A 100MHz 4 channels

I got a tip from a friend in uk, so the searching was quickly.
C607, 10µF was RIP, that`s all. The upside of the scope is discrete parts (PSU + Displayboard), made by Yokogawa,
the "made in USA" means strictly the downside, smd board by HP.
Scope is running, pictures will follow.

greetings
Martin

So my wellenkino very glowing home laboratory have a DSO in the collection that looks like a foreigner there between the heavy Tekscopes
It make a good job, the quality of analog signals can`t beat a analog system but allready. Fine is storage, and direct measure of Voltages, rates, frequency.
"useful unit".

Nice work on that one Martin! Good when it's a "quick fix." Those were a decent series of early digital scopes, a lot of them out there with a lot of folks still using them.

there is a option box mounted at the back, HPIB interface.
Time for me to learn how to use that, I have some instruments what have that, mostly DMM.
And there is a plate "option 001" (I think this means 220V for europe, not shure)

Last year when we was on the maker faire in hannover I have seen in the place of my neighbours the B Version of this scope, same but 150MHz, also 4 Channel.
It is a fine scope, not so fat and very useful. Here in germany the price in the bay is almost too high for this instruments, so the most people will buy a new chinese for less or the same money.
The yokogawa components are easy to repair, no smd

Bravo. Very nice repair you've completed. I love the fact that you used your "hunter" to identify and validate the defective component. The 546 series is one of my favorites that I use that isn't a Tek branded scope. Dependable and lightweight.

ave a question.

There is a printing button.
The only interface is the option box HPIB,
what kind of printer is compatible to that scope, the old pen plotters?

They were designed to print directly on HP's "Thinkjet" printers of the time, they had one with the HPIB interface. But it is nearly impossible to find a good working Thinkjet today, and there were very few other direct HPIB printers. The old dot matrix HPIB printers won't work, I have tried that, not sure about plotters.

Just recaped a 54510a. There are caps that will leak on the power supply board, you are best to look very closely as it is corrosive. I can almost guarantee you will have other caps going soon.

Cool the plotter works with it! It's been a while since I heard one of those- never thought I would miss the sound those things made ;)

but sorry it print all in black. 54601A works monocrome.
Some of the larger Tek Systems, like a 27xx spec and TDS7xx print on this plotters colored.

I would be interested for any software what can use the plotter. There is a Interface cable USB to GPIB also.

Mistake from me:

You can set the print option in the 54601A to High Resolution,
then it will change the output to 2 colors !
Video will follow.

Years back when color inkjets came out we were tossing those plotters in the dumpster by the boatloads. But you have encouraged me to find one to use with my 54502A and 85, if only just for the fun of it. I see the ink pens are still readily available. I have two old HP matrix printers I use on my HPIB with the 85 computer/controller, I might have a plotter ROM for it too. Great video!
