I was thinking that used the same pot as the 10-40 but I see it does use a 50 watt pot, those are still available for under $20 shipped.

update: the use of the nickel conductance pen allowed me to verify that the pot could be brought back to functionality by bridging the two spots with minimal loss of functionality.

While I am awaiting making a decision on the spot welding rig, I will fire it up and see what happens to the "paint" when the pot gets hot...
