Hi Folks,

Last year I did a complete teardown and rebuild of a VM 1210B for my Westinghouse Model 57ACS 2 record player as well as rebuilt the amp. Everything worked great or so I thought. I recently tried to play some of our 45 records and was surprised to see the record drop but the tone arm only moved to the 33-1/3 position. It took me by surprise but I did catch the arm before it hit the turntable mat.

I am hoping somebody that has run into this before can guide me on what part or parts I need to re-clean and re-lube to resolve this problem. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ernie

There is a little metal "flag" that a 33 sized record hits while dropping to the platter. It should be spring loaded and freely moving. It might be gummed up and stuck in the 12" record position

In addition to what Meatloaf said, make absolutely certain you got all the old grease out. You would very surprised in the places it still exist even after you though you had it all out.

Meatloaf Lover and Artcurus,
Thanks,

Also this style of VoM changers are built slightly different and are more picky if that makes sense. Pay close attention during reassembly, in fact taking pictures would be a good idea. Something as simple as a washer in the wrong place or wrong position can really mess things up

Artcurus and Meatloaf,

Thanks for your advice. I cleaned the 33-1/3 flag and spring area and reassembled everything yesterday. I played several stacks of 45s last evening and the tonearm now drops where it is supposed to.

I appreciate your good advice.

Ernie
