I have a 1962 Magnavox console stereo with an Imperial Micromatic turntable. Recently it has started skipping a lot. I can play an album one day and the next day it will skip. The album has no scratches and has been cleaned. This happens to most albums played. Fine one day and skip the next. I have no idea what is left to check. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure that you're not using the 78 needle by mistake, and that you're needle is good?

I have tried the needle both ways out of desperation. I have delayed replacing the needle since it seems to work fine at times. I have also adjusted the pressure. But I am willing to buy a new needle to test

replace the needle. Take the weight back to where it was. If the cart is original, it might be time to change that also.

you can get a needle from thevoiceofmusic.com. Talk to Gary.

Also, has the turntable been cleaned and relubricated? That can issues also.

The cartridge was changed a couple of years ago. The turntable was also. But may be time again for both just to test Thanks for the needle information. Thanks for your help.

Cart should be fine. Just replace needle and go from there.

Does it skip in the same location (example: near the end of a record)? Or does it skip at random locations.

If the same location, you might have a velocity trip issue or the tonearm wiring is binding. But if it happens at random spots throughout the record, that points to the needle.
