Recently picked up a Capehart 16PH55F and was wondering if anyone knew what cartridge it needs and where I would be able to get one?

Contact Gary at the voiceofmusic.com
Also as an FYI, the 45 adapter, the box that has Glaser Steers,on it, is not the correct one for that changer.
The 45 adapter is also available from Gary.

Looks like Sonotone 2T cartridge, a find sounding cartridge, but not safe for stereo records.

We also assume you are going to do the basic electronics service of components replacement.
Avoid powering up the Capehart before this service is performed.
Failure to do so may result in expensive damage to parts of the circuits.
The record changer is a V-M 954 model record changer.
The Sonotone 2-T can be replaced with a Pfanstiehl P-228 stereo cartridge, for example.
The 2 channels will be jumpered for mono amplifier use in the Capehart.

I actually don't know what all I should be doing before operating it safely, as far as servicing? I was told I needed to replace the cartridge and stylus and that was all I was told.

If no one has done recent service:
1. All electroytic, wax covered paper, and plastic covered capacitors should be replaced.
2. All resistors checked to be wnl of their value tolerance +/- 10-20 % usually.
3. All wiring checked for insulation degradation, broken solder joints, et cetera.
4. Tubes checked for function and shorts. Tube sockets cleaned.
5. Record changer cycling mechanism should be dis-assembled and cleaned well. Platter bearings and thrust washers cleaned.
Record changer motor same. Lube with turbine oil. New rubber motor mounts and idler wheel if rubber hardened/glazed.
6. Power and output transformers checked for internal shorts.
