The clip broke on the cartridge, so I need to remove the tonearm. I removed the hex head screw, but it still seems reluctant to come off. Do I need to do anything else?

Does this help?

First, make sure we all seeing the parts the same way....

My interpretation:
#16 goes onto a shaft coming up from the bottom, and #16A acts as a"set screw" to hold it in place.
#17 looks like the set-down adjustment
What's left is #12, which is maybe for adjusting tracking force.

More generally, if this has been sitting around any length of time, it might be time to bite the bullet and do a complete teardown / cleaning / lubrication.

Apply 1-2 drops of light oil to the
tonearm mount/shaft.
Then hold tonearm & gently apply pressure
at its farthest lateral travel point towards
the spindle.
It should release.

Well, I didn't really get why OP wanted to remove it and actually thought removing pin and spring would do. Glad someone else knows.

I need to remove it so I can get to the cartridge and figure out whether to solder the clip back together or get a new one.

I'd just get a new one, but as I understand it there isn't a direct replacement for this cartridge and I don't want to get into involved stuff like installing a preamp so I can use a magnetic.

Thanks for the helpful information! I'm going to try again today.

I used a pfahnstiehl P-228 from Gary at the voice of music when I replaced the cartridge in my SHF-7. No preamp required, through you do need to solder a jumper to strap the cartridge for the mono amplifier.

Never fully remove the tone arm locking screw... just loosen it. Sometimes you have to grab the screw and push it from side to side, or pull toward you to get the tonearm to come off its mount. Some of them come off easily...others are a PITA...
