WTB - This white knob for Delco R-1229 as shown in the picture from radioattic.com. I need three, but if I can get one, I'll make a silicone mold. Got one in your junk box to sell? Or can you provide a close-up of this knob? OR loan me one to make the mold?

I like looking for these early post-war radios that illustrate the fact that there were many shortages of materials for making consumer goods after WW-II. In the case of this Delco, you see them making cabinets out of solid lumber because there was a shortage of resins for making Bakelite. You see Philco in their 47-204 using Masonite board for the same reason. These cabinets cost more in labor and production time than molded cabinets so as soon as the resins became available again in quantity, they immediately abandoned these alternative cabinets.

Thanks,
Robert

Hello Robert,

I believe that I have all 3 of them. I will have to look.

Here are some pictures of 5 of them. All are missing the metal retaining clips.

Kent.

PapaKent,

That's great... Some years ago (make that decades ago) I bought a little box of assorted clips from GC. I'm sure I still have the stash.

Name your price for 3 or just one so I can make a mold.

Thanks,
Robert

use slices of measuring tape metal for knob springs. Cheap, and you can cut it with scissors. Usually a few layers are needed to make it snug enough but it works GREAT !
