Hello, I have tried and tried to search for a new needle for my 1947 Admiral 7RT42-N Tube radio record player. The cartridge number says 3-3 8 and thats the only information i can find. The old needle is on there, but it has no numer on it. It almost looks like a pin with a point on the end. I have tried needlefinder and many other sites. Phil from antique admiral radios directed me here. Can anyone help??, Thank you

Before you look for a Needle do you get any sound from the cartridge?
It's probably a Crystal type cartridge and 95% of them are dried up and dead at this point.

A picture of the cartridge might be helpful.

Some of the Admiral cartridges of that era were a variable resistance type, which used a carbon and rubber element; if it is this type, the audio connection to it will have a resistor to the B+ for the excitation voltage. These could be replaced with a modern cartridge, but the resistor to B+ will have to be removed.
