Hi Folks. I've acquired a 1430K in excellent working condition, except for one issue:
the platter isn't level. It's about an 1/8" higher on the tonearm side, which means that
records with a slight amount of warp will brush the underside of the tonearm.
The spindle is not plumb to the body, so the platter isn't level.

In the short term, I'm going to shim the tonearm up about 3/16". I think I need to shim it
up just a bit anyway, as the stylus rake angle is a little low. But if anyone could has any
insight on how I might might plumb the bearing/spindle, I'd be quite grateful.

Thanks,
Jake

Don't shim the tonearm, pull the platter and have a look underneath--something is amiss here. The drive mechanism mounts to the motorboard at several points (probably rivets)---I would not be surprised if one or more of those rivets has sunk through the motorboard, causing an errant angle.

Wish I had heard of this a week or two ago. I scrapped a nearly complete unit that I found in the dump--had a motor in there untested but probably live. Roaches had the case, though.

@tubes4life - do you think that the idler wheel is pushing on the platter ID?

It better be---if it's not, the turntable won't turn. But that's not the problem, it has to do with the mounting of the platter. You'll have to remove the platter to inspect more closely. It could even be that the motorboard itself is warped.
