I don't know of this little gem of history has been posted here before, but it's a neat video, definitely worth the time to watch!

Also, consider all of the people needed to design and build the machines, and all of the people needed to maintain the machines.

Stephen, my thoughts exactly. Gosh, the precision and adjustments on every one of those machines must be overwhelming today if one was to try and maintain them. I have seen other Mullard films but this is the first time I saw this one. It would be a good one for our Audiophile groups since they targeted the EL84 and I think an ECC82.

Thanks for the link.

I recently bought some new production 6L6GC tubes. It would be interesting to see a video on a modern vacuum tube factory.

I would agree. I can't imagine that today, they would be using all of that manual labor.

I just thought it was pretty cool to watch them being made! And also it's pretty rewarding to see people taking pride in what their making! And you guys are right, I can't even imagine all the work that went into designing the equipment that would eventually use the tubes that were being made! I just thought it was crazy watching the Ecc82 being made almost completely by machine, I have a mullard ecc82 that I believe was made during that time as well!
Now I'm not entirely sure how to date this tube but here is what it says at the very top in white lettering it says
1.11.7
At the bottom it says
K61
B7D

So I take it that it is either from '67 or '77

Also think of the peripheral industries supplying the materials needed to make
the tubes.

My guess would be that your tube is older.
k61 would be the first version of the ECC82.
B7D would indicate the Mullard Blackburn factory in 1957.

Oh wow! I had no clue it was that old! I had gotten it in a deal when I traded an amp for another amp a couple years ago! I got a couple more too, but they're unmarked except 12au7 from what I've read GE tubes usually had this and the logo supposedly wiped off pretty easily

This is the same tube as yours, just made a month later.

Then again, a large percentage of these tubes are being made in Russia at the NewSensor factory, and probably on some fairly old equipment.

I do not think travel to Russia is safe, but it would be nice to see a video from that factory.
