What is the most boring or ugly radio you own or know of?

We all love the radios in our collections, but let's face it - tastes differ wildly.

So, which radios are the red headed step children of the air?

I actually own this one...

The Grundig FR-200!

Coyote ugly, but survived many a drop onto hard surfaces and spilled libations!

There's many, but this early post-war Teletone came into my mind immediately. Someone had a idea for a modern design, but it just didn't work!

What's up with you guys?
All radios are beautiful.

Even Radio-Ron has a Sesame Street one!

How about this early post-war Majestic? What were they thinking! Do I keep my coffee-cup warm on top of it while I listen to my favorite show?
(By the way, I find freckled red-heads adorable! :)

It sort of resembles a 70's Panasonic flip clock radio! Definitely before it's time!
And it would keep your coffee warm, though it might catch fire if you spilled it!
I love gingers!

Easy. The Motorola 9J that’s been the subject of so much discussion on the online auction forum. Very rare, but some things are rare because people thought they were ugly and didn’t buy them when they were first put on sale.

Honorable mention...the Emerson 520, the brown Air King skyscraper with the clock on the face, and the DeWald catalin with the clock in the center of the speaker area. Any Firestone/AirChief console from them late 30s, early 40s.

I posted these pics a few months ago. Found in an antique shop in Lafayette, Oregon. No, I didn't buy it and I'm sure it's still there.
I don't know the brand. Very Buggly!

Zenith made some really stylish radios during the 20s and 30s but after the war, well, they made a few duds. Here's two of them.

Image
Zenith 9H079. This may be more comical looking then ugly. The geometric perportions on this radio are just plain out of wack.

Image
I think this is probably the single most ugliest radio Zenith ever made. I don't know what model this is and, frankly, I don't care.

It may be ugly, but it has a nice smile.

I don't have a picture, and didnt want to steal any images off the net, but my vote goes to the Emerson 541. There are a lot of Emersons that I like, but the ever-eBay-present 541, with that bulging tuner-pointer cover on the right side of the grille...when the plastic is yellowed and almost opaque, it almost looks like a blister full of...yuck!

Yikes, I own two of the candidates for the ugliest radio - the Grundig wind-up and the Superadio III.
I guess there's just no accounting for taste!

One of my most loathsome concepts of a radio is the molded-front Crosleys like the 48, the Buddy Boys, Super Buddy Boy, etc. Bleeech! The reason they stand out to me is the fact that people spend substantial sums of money for these grotesque monsters. But they sold, and thus apparently that reflected the decor tastes of people at that time. I would hate to see their furniture. People that dug blond Danish modern stereo consoles also carried that over into the rest of their furniture and decor. And some of those people are still alive so we can ask them what they were thinking.
