To the left is an Ohm symbol on the left just looks like a blotch

Looks like a 1 or 2 watt wire wound resistor. The ohms symbol probably confirms that
I recall one of my Heathkit builds had a few of thosr. 40 years ago +/- lol

4079 looks like a date code, the 40 week of 1979.

What equipment is it from? Do you have to replace it? Almost surely a resistor. In fact I came across several just like that in my stash of “precision” resistors today while looking for replacements. I was working on my Hickok 155, which is beginning to look like it's going to need a total resistorectomy.
