Can anyone identify this Magnavox stereo/radio/8-track console I inherited from my folks? Model number is apparently PF6224 and the serial number is 012153717. I’m attaching photos of the unit, inside and out, as well as the Magnavox inspection card that came with it. Thanks in advance! - Steve7485

The best I can do on that one is date it to the mid 1970s. That model number is too low for the 1977 catalog I have and too high for the 1973 catalog I have so somewhere in between. The small sized consoles of that time period were only putting out 6 watts per channel into usually two 8" speakers with inter-cone tweeters.

That one is not in Sams (service info for most everything), so it may have been a low production run. With an 8 track, I would agree mid 70's, and I do recall using with those punch cards for warranty work (I've been here since the early 70's).
My best bud in college's parents and several family members worked at the Magnavox facility somewhere in the Bloomington IN area (lived in Bedford).
Nice looking unit!

Thanks, Larry and Dan! Dan, it works great, too (except maybe the 8-track, which chewed up the last tape I tried on it — years ago — though that might’ve been the tape itself rather than the player). Either of you have any idea of a value for it? Want to sell, but not sure what to ask for it. - Steve

Sadly, they just do not command the price that you think they should. I would strongly recommend saving it for a future generation, since it's "family", but I understand if it is in the way. The wood is more attractive than some out there, but, depending on your location, it is just plain hard to get $25 -50 for a console stereo in that size. The mid century modern/mad men crowd like the 6 foot wide behemoths, all restored and/or converted to Bluetooth, in their oversized park avenue apartments. In my neck of the woods, console stereos are routinely listed on CraigsList or Facebook Marketplace for less than $100, and they don't sell. I would love to say it's a $300 or $500 piece, but it just isn't.

Unfortunately he's right, while some earlier top of the line consoles can fetch some bucks the smaller 1970's models don't. I have one my son paid $7 for that I've been trying to give away with no takers (I currently have 4 stereo consoles and 1 Hi-Fi console). There's been a resurgence in stereo record players but folks want more than 6 WPC output and to be honest the turntable in that unit leaves a lot to be desired sonically plus replacement cartridges (good ones) are difficult to find and fairly costly if you do. It's essentially a non-standard player as witnessed by the narrow headshell. Sorry.
