With the terrible state of American and British musicals lately - trolling the bottoms of various cinematic barrels to make theatrical musicals that are SSSOOOOOO BBBADDDDDD even kids won't watch them - it's good to see that the Europeans - in this case the Flemish - are producing quality engaging wholesome pop musicals suitable for all ages. I caught this one last night on the South African channel we got during the International Programming Package Free Preview Week on DirecTV. For those of you who are unaware, Afrikaans, Dutch and Flemish are very closely related with a high degree of mutual intelligibility between the three - like Danish Swedish and Norwegian - so the South Africans probably wouldn't have needed subtitles to understand. The stars are K3 - the Flemish answer to the Spice Girls - with pretty much the same pre-teen female audience as the original, updated for a new generation. As there are no English subtites, I was surprised that I only needed the Flemish subtitles once in awhile because the Flemish they speak has a lot of overlap to German, Danish and Gaelic - so even if you don't understand it as spoken, once you read the original Flemish subtitles - even as an English speaker you can see a lot of common Germanic word roots and be able to figure a lot of it out yourself. K3 in Alice in Wonderland - slide over to 1:38:36 for the rousing finale Geloof in Yezelf (literally Believe in Yourself but styled in English a A Thousand Rainbows the first line of the chorus). I see a thousand rainbows in a row A sun that never sets I see a friend who does it all with me Nobody ever gets us small again And I'll be there for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9yxLSC8ysYAnd to keep it radio-related, here's the Making Of reel where the White Rabbit ``uses'' an old European SW radio with the auto-select to sample all the songs on the soundtrack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugfZ7SXdAkA

I will be, in the next couple of hours, performing my Christmas Day ritual of listening to the near two hour December 25th 1938 concert at Carnegie Hall, NYC lead by Paul Whiteman - It was called Experiments in Modern Music. This 81 year old performance still absolutely thrills me....

I was listening to the Taylor Swift 'Lover' 2 Disc color set on my 1963 Zenith AM/FM/PHONO Stereophonic wood floor console while I was hosting a party Wednesday night. That girl sure has talent! Such wonderful songs that rock!

Etta Jones' "If you are but a dream" Wow... this is an old standard by Sinatra... but in Etta Jones' (1962) version, it is a wholly different mood or feel and the best part is the saxophone solo in the middle. Terrific!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMlhHiABqms

When I go downstairs to the shop, I will be listening to my AM transmitter. Great oldies from the 50s, 60s, and early 70s. Over 2000 songs in rotation, and I keep adding more.
