Can someone tell me where to order 2 replacement belts for a Pentron Reel to Reel recorder model HT 255 or TR 4?
The belts are a feed belt 5/16" X 17 1/4" and a take up belt 5/16" X 12 5/8"

The feed belt is marked Tilton 899-A2

The machine is circa 1955.

Also try vintage-electronics.net (note, it is NOT ".com", also, their web page looks a lot better on a computer screen than a phone...) You can order a belt kit by make and model of deck, as well as size, and they have pinch-rollers and other accessories for turntable and tape deck refurbishment.

Edit: I do not see Pentron listed in their kits by manufacturer, is it possible the mechanical portion was made by somebody else? They may know...

I haven't checked lately but I used to see belt sets listed on Ebay by make and model. Do a search for your tape unit and see if there is a set available.

Have you tried Projector Recorder Belt Co. (which is now owned by Russell Industries)? They used to be my go-to people for all kinds of obscure tape recorder, projector, and other kinds of belts and drive wheels. http://www.russellind.com/prbline/prblinecom_.htm

Contacted Gary. He was extremely helpful! The belts for Pentron are apparently unobtainium, but he gave me hints on how to make my own replacements. Will be attempting it!

Wow, a Pentron! I haven't seen one of those in 40 years.

I've had great luck with Gary at The Voice of Music. I had an early Panasonic RtR that I could find nothing about on the web, nor did Gary have it on his list. He told me how to measure the belt and I ordered one by size with fingers crossed. It worked perfectly. He's my first go-to.
