mid century styled cabinet is in very nice shape, price is reasonable

how are the Silvertone electronic components regarded? did Sears make anything good or is this junk? be honest, you won't hurt my feelings.

Sales listing is deleted. Makes it pretty hard to look at later.

All depends upon the year and model. Much of the Silvertone branded stuff in the 50's thru 70's was manufactured by Warwick, a long established independent radio company in Chicago, and Sears actually owned controlling interest in Warwick for quite some time.

You can tell the Warwick-built stuff by the 528. prefix associated with model and/or chassis numbers. There were some halfway decent sets, but generally the record changers were pretty much junk.

Silvertone would be a definite step above the entry level sets sold by discount stores, but not as good as the major brands like RCA, Magnavox, Zenith who pretty much held the market on consumer grade console stereos.

For those doing repair today, the unavailability of proprietary parts which would only have been found in Silvertone brand sets could be an issue.

Further back, in the 1930s and 1940s, most of the radios came from Colonial, with some from Stewart-Warner, and a few others. They did offer a few models with high tube counts, and their gold-dial models from 1936-37 get some attention today.
