Over on the Guardian, a bit about "Soviet TV version of Lord of the Rings rediscovered after 30 years"
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/apr/05/soviet-tv-version-lord-of-the-rings-rediscovered-after-30-years
Quote:
A Soviet television adaptation of The Lord of the Rings thought to have been lost to time was rediscovered and posted on YouTube last week, delighting Russian-language fans of JRR Tolkien. The 1991 made-for-TV film, Khraniteli, based on Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, is the only adaptation of his Lord of the Rings trilogy believed to have been made in the Soviet Union.

Didn't see mention of subtitles, I think you may need to speak Russian to enjoy it.
Dasvidaniya,
John

Thank you. I have the Russian novella rewriting LOTR as a class struggle between Communism and Capitalism, so I will watch this closely. But youtubes auto translate seems to add it's own take on the story. John

Thanks! My wife has a master's degree in Russian language and literature. They had far better children's cartoons than the violent stuff I remember.

Soviet era cartoons are delightful. Check out Zhikharka or Cheburashka on Utube.
