A forgotten link led me to the Radio Daze web site last night.

I got curious as I had not been to their site since Fall of 2020. I was looking for small odd items as well as the multi-wire battery cable...

It is that cable that interests me. I still recall complaints from "some" supplier of poor quality textile braid covered wire, poor braid coverage, braid unraveling, etc.

There have also been reports of poor Radio Daze service...

My two questions are:

- Has anyone recently gotten some of the Radio Daze battery cable and was the quality good? Tight over braid, secure braid and coverage to the individual wires?

- Have there been any recent reports of delayed shipments, (excuses) or other product issues with Radio Daze in say, the last 3 months?

Radio Daze appears to be the only "game in town" for 20's era battery cable at what seems to be a reasonable price.

Why don't I call Radio Daze? I would expect a "no problems" answer

No, I have not contacted replica auto harness makers but unless I have custom wire covered I will get auto primary wire in striped colors. Cost? I can imagine much more...

Regards, Chas

The auto harness supplier that I use YnZ, will cover any wires you want them to, you can make up a harness and send it to them to weave the loom over or you can have them make up something using wire colors and gauges from their stock, which you can specify. They stock both cloth covered and vinyl wires, in plain solid colors as well as those having a tracer, although the smallest gauge you are likely to get from them is probably going to be 16.

They are not very expensive either. $4.00 per foot for braiding straight cables that you send them. I've had them make a number of cables for vintage auto radios and been very satisfied, the turnaround time on a harness I made up and sent them to braid was less than a week.

There's also the old shoestring trick that you can use at home, which some ARF members have reported doing successfully. It depends upon being able to find a shoestring of the correct style and color to suit your needs and of course the length is limited.

Hi Chas,

Here is a photo of the cable on my Radiola III.
This is from my iPhone, I can take some close ups with my camera tonight if that would help.

Russ,

That looks really good, even includes the "tail", that is unless that was created by carefully extracting the wires through a gap in the braid.

Is that a Radio Daze recent or long past product? They were out of stock for some time until recently.

I'm now kicking my butt as at one time I had 12 braiders and 12 bobbin winders. Just no space for radios and winders to co-exist

Hi Chas,

It was purchased from Radio Daze, several years ago. I created the tail since I wanted it to look as it would have back in the day. If I recall, there were more wires in the cable than needed (unless I am thinking of a different cable) so I pulled the "extra wires" out.

Speaking of automotive harnesses, these folks; https://www.riwire.com/
They should be pretty close to you I think.

Russ

Russ you sample, does look good, the "tail" does look a little loose but that is expected...
Yes, RI, Wire is close about 25 mins away. They do not have all the colors and only primary gauges, many with strips. Making special runs of a color is expensive if they do not have the color yarn in stock a "Dye Lot" purchases has to be made.
If someone would respond who has bought this battery cable product recently please speak to the quality.

I'll order soon and take the chance... chas
