Found a very sad Philco 655X on marketplace, and decided it needed a new home.
Thought it would be a fun project, until the entire top fell off while unloading it. Lots of re glueing and clamping of veneer involved.
Not so much fun anymore... :D
Haven't done any finishing work in years, so there was definitely a learning curve again. Used Mohawk instrument lacquer, great stuff!
Probably should have gone a little darker with the toner on the speaker grill, but too late now.
If you look at the first picture, the "Philco" decal was originally placed at the very top of the face panel. Looked very odd. I couldn't bring myself to put it up that high again, even though that was the original location. If you have a 655X, were they all that way?
The radio work will one of my "winter projects".
Take care

Great job.
I have a restored 655B table model. It is one of my better sounding sets.
Yours should perform very well with the larger speaker after the electronics are done.

Nice! And I think you put the Philco decal where it belongs!
