Hi, looking for a cap checker that is a reasonable price to check big power capacitors.

Anything out there?

Thanks!

IT-28s are going for $300 on Ebay thanks to audiophools. Good luck in your search.

I have a Pyramid CRA-2, complete with hard copy manual, that I have carefully restored that I’ll let go for $100 + actual shipping (I have packing materials already).

Based on the info you have supplied, I can’t be sure this will meet your needs. I can send a crude PDF of the manual as well, but here’s a photo of their original advertising that gives you the basics of its capabilities.

I think it depends upon your needs...do you need to be able to reform/refresh eletcrolytics? If not, then woodchuck's make sense. If so, then be looking at $200+ these days

Steve

edited: The pyramid, from the manual...I have not seen one...appears to be a rather neat variation from the idea of a Tel-Ohmike...

Should work fine for reforming. I would like to see one!

Some reforming, mostly going to be used for leakage testing of larger caps, 29-50,000 uf at 40-85 Volts max. I just liked the way the it-28 worked for leakage with the eye tube. Made it nice and easy to test.

Here is a link to a PCB for a capacitor DC leakage tester:

Just remember, most capacitor testers are not rated for reforming capacitors. Use a power supply and a ma meter and save the tester transformer from going up in smoke.

And most of the old capacitor testers don't go above 5000 uF.
