Gentlemen and greeting to the forum,
I have been pining over what to do with my RCA WV-98C (k) Assembly manual. I have not seen one anywhere and would like to make copies and post it on this forum for others who might need the information. However, either I go to Kinko's and copy this by hand which will give me the copies I want to work from or see if someone out there has a better idea on how to copy and save this important documentation. This manual has fold outs, drawings and a calibration method I have never seen. So if there are any suggestions I would be grateful. I do NOT want to lose the original or damage it in any way.

Jim

Flux is the only way to go.

BAMA(link above) has the WV-98C operators manual and a board layout diagram in pdf on their website. But if your information is different than that or complements that, it would be nice to have it on their website for everyone. IT is a well known site. If you can get the manual you have converted into pdf's that would be a great expediter. But I have sent him manuals in other formats in scans to be converted to pdf and he accepts anything he can convert to pdf.

I've scanned a photocopy of Jim's manual.

You can find it on my site:
https://www.byan-roper.org/steve/manuals/RCA/RCA%20WV-98C(K)%20Assembly%20Instructions.pdf

I'm in the process of uploading it to BAMA, ko4bb.com, and EBAman.

I missed it, is there a schematic in there?

No schematic. It does have assembly instructions, wiring diagrams, calibration instructions, and a troubleshooting guide.

Yea well I checked BAMA and operator info and schematic is there anyway, so your info is useful supplemental to the existing stuff. Now you got me hot to get one of those meters, again. Previous searches turned up flogged rough meters for high prices. Now I spotted a decent one that seems priced fine, but I got a question for the seller in process.

Stevebyan,
Yes no schematic. But I did send you one in the additional material I sent.

The one I bought is minus probe, so I will have to scrounge a probe body in the junkbox and insert the 1 meg resistor when I build it up. Should be pretty easy to make.

Yep, I've bought and sold a few over the years too. The one I have now I'm going to keep. Although I don't like the crowded scales, its a very good General purpose meter.

Mike, what's the run number on your WV-98C? It looks like it has the old-style front panel markings, gray hammertone paint on the case, and the RCA meatball logo on the meter card, but the pilot light bezel is the new style, like my run L60 unit.

Hi Steve, here's a pic of the back of the case. I don't know if there are markings on the chassis or not but as you can see by the masking tape note, its been a while since I broke it open.

Thanks, that's interesting. I would guess that run K107 is older than my run K114, but it has a newer pilot light style, and the Heyco clip on the power cord is a newer style than on my K114 (it looks like the one on my run K117).

I suspect the back of the case may have been swapped with another unit. Another clue that this may be the case is the model number and power input requirements on the label. The label says it's the 220 volt 60 Hz export model of the WV-98C - the WV-98CX. But your unit is clearly a 115 volt unit. Although some WV-98C's have dual-primary power transformers and so could be wired for either voltage.

On the other hand, the serial number on your run K107 is higher than that of my K114, so maybe run K107 came after K114?

K114 - s/n 100324
K107 - s/n 125694
K117 - s/n 126564
L60 - s/n 137974

It's too bad RCA put the run number and serial number on the case, rather than the internals, as the case can easily be swapped between units.

If you happen to open it up sometime, it would be interesting to see the revision number on the PCB. I'll have to go back and get a list of the PCB revisions from my units.
